In a recent survey, CFO magazine readers were asked:

What are the top three drivers of your employee’s effectiveness and productivity? Unsurprisingly, compensation and benefits came out on top

But, then, a puzzling answer to another question. When asked how they would increase the value that their company derives from its workforce, less than 1 in 4 CFOs said they would look first to increasing compensation and benefits. Much more popular was a strategy for linking compensation to performance metrics.
